Little House on the Prairie - English review
Do you have a favourite book which always gives you comfort when you read over and over again at different times of your life? I have several. And this is my number one among those books: #littlehouseontheprairie by #lauraingallswilder
I read it first when I was in primary school, borrowed from a small library in the neighborhood. Was enchanted by the story of daily life of little Laura and her family. They get up early, work in the cropfield, feed the cows, mend the house and play with wildlife around the prairie. Nothing to worry about except the next season's meal and basic needs. A hard-working yet simple and wonderful life. I started to write inspired by this book. Nobody reads my story back then as I was too afraid to show people I wrote about things that I hardly know about (i.e. snowy days and a picnic by the river).
I read the whole series when I was in primary school and carelessly I wished I had born in countryside, or a place where I could play the whole day with birds and rabbits, where I could touch the snow and felt the deadly cold of winter but snugling comfortly in front of the fire with a cup of ginger ale.
I read it again when I was in highschool. This time I realized that it took so much courage for the family to live as a pioneer. Pa and Ma were very brave and strong couple. Both worked very hard to fulfill their dream as a settler and still managed to raise their girls wonderfully as parents. At this point I silently prayed to God that I would be given a strong man as a husband and we could venture the world together while raising our kids, like the Ingalls.
I finally bought the book on my first visit to Thalia, a German bookstore chain, at their Bonn branch. God is so kind to grant my wishes years ago. I've been sitting in my 'wagon' beside a brave husband and three wonderful daughters for the last 7 years, far from family and friends so dear, but still trying to make the best out of every single day.
The book reminds me that we often, if not always take things for granted: fresh water, comfortable bed, various types of fruits and vegetables available at near-by supermarket, among others. The Ingalls back then, and many people still right now, need to work hard and sweat blood to provide their families with the basics.

An important take-home message from the book is "Whatever you do, please please do not force people to go out of their homes!"
It is hard already to stay physically and mentally healthy at your own home.
Thank you for passing on this message to us, Laura.
